While I’m waiting for some more parts to get I here, I figured I’d start on the Body. I decided not to paint it after all. The paint that is on it is still good. It just needs to have the oxidized outer layer cleaned off. I took a small piece of the body to a guy at Ace Hardware, and he showed me some stuff that will do the trick. That little piece was sparkling. It’s cool to have original paint that looks good on this thing. Plus, tearing it down completely to paint would be a real pain. I’m kind of anxious to see if it runs first.
The only thing that will need painting is the new headset (handlebars), the horn cast (the little metal centerpiece on the front), the front fork (holds on the tire) and the front fender. I haven’t been able to get a paint that matches it exactly, but I have one that is really close. It might be cool to have it be a slightly different color on the front. It will look planned. A lot of times, scooter lads paint these different colors(two-tone), but they paint the side panels too.
I pulled off the front fender to start working on it. I should have taken a before picture, but you can see a difference between these two anyway. The metal is surprisingly formable. I was able to straighten out a lot of the dents blacksmith style (bangin’ on it with a hammer).
